Being located in Centennial, Colorado, we thought it would be fun to do a blog post about the history of the city of Centennial. Did you know that Centennial is not even 20 years old? Centennial was first February 7, 2001; it was voted to incorporation on September 12, 2000. The name is a nod to Colorado’s nickname, the “Centennial State.” Upon its incorporation, Centennial had over 100,000 residents; as a result, making Centennial the highest populated city in US history.
Due to its novelty, Centennial is not always recognized by Denver inhabitants. It’s frequently mistaken for Aurora, Littleton, Greenwood Village, and Englewood. Adding to this confusion, the US Postal Service still assigns these alternatives cities for Centennial based zip codes. Centennial’s boundaries are quite irregular. It spans East West and is roughly divided by I25. It backs up to Littleton off of Broadway and spans clear out east to Aurora nearly to E470.
Landmarks and People
Likely one of Centennial’s most notable landmark is IKEA. It’s located right off of I25 and Dry Creek and is the second largest IKEA in the United States. In addition, the Denver Broncos state-of-the-art training facility is also located in Centennial. One of Centennial’s most notable people is Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin. Some of the top employers of Centennial include: Comcast, US Foods, United HealthCare, OppenheimerFunds, and United Launch Alliance.
Centennial’s housing market is on the rise. With high-performing schools, convenient retail stores, and being ranked 15th as one of the safest cities in America, it’s no wonder why its properties are highly sought after. According to Trulia, market trends show an increase of 5% in median homes sales over the last year. Consequently, you’re looking to buy in Centennial, it’s best not to wait.
